“We don’t just want to play music for your wedding, but we want to be the glue that holds the event together and keeps it flowing, so that there is nothing for you to do but enjoy your special day.”
–Gene
How did Gene start working at Buckeye Entertainment?
Who is Gene, though?
While he was born in Los Angeles, Gene’s family is from Japan and he stayed there for the first seven or so years of his life, lucking out with citizenship for both countries. He returned to the States when his family moved for work, spending the second half of his childhood in Dublin, Ohio. Still pursuing a degree in Psychology when it was time for his family to move back, Gene decided to stick around for good! With a penchant for going over the top, his hobbies include collecting music, learning new dishes to cook, and reading anything within reach.
Neat! How does he feel about weddings?
“I mentioned having a love for grand affairs earlier and nowhere does that apply better than at weddings. They are the perfect combination of a monumental event in a person’s life involving a serious commitment, and a big fun party where everybody celebrates that commitment. My favorite part is probably the recessional of the ceremony. Throughout the whole ceremony (and the whole day, for the bride and groom), excitement slowly bubbles up and builds as words are repeated and rings are exchanged, but the moment when the couple turns around to walk back down the aisle is just incredible. The officiant announces them for the first time as a married couple, the music blasts above the cheering and clapping, and everybody is all smiles because it is one of those perfect moments.”
Favorite music?
“It depends on what I’m doing at the time, since music tends to be a constant part of my life. If I’m driving it’s classic rock or hip-hop. If I’m reading, jazz or classical. If it’s raining outside, maybe indie. And of course, a healthy smattering of 90’s and 80’s hits in between.”
Best part of working for Buckeye Entertainment?
“Aside from DJ’ing weddings? Probably the company culture. We take our jobs very seriously, but we are also able to be light-hearted and fun about it, which keeps us on-the-ball but relaxed. I believe that is an important quality since a wedding is also a blend of seriousness and fun.”
